About FNTA files
A .fnta file is an Aleph One Font File, primarily associated with the Aleph One game engine, which is an open-source port of the classic Marathon game engine originally developed by Bungie Studios. These files store specialized bitmap font data used strictly for rendering in-game text and menus.
The major disadvantage of the .fnta format is its extreme lack of interoperability. It is a proprietary, legacy-oriented format. You cannot install a .fnta file natively on Windows, macOS, or Linux, nor can you use it in standard applications like Microsoft Word or Adobe Photoshop. Modern design requires vector-based fonts like TTF (TrueType) or OTF (OpenType).
Converting a .fnta file to standard font formats is highly problematic. Because it relies on rasterized (pixel) grids rather than mathematical curves, most online converters simply fail to read the file header or misinterpret the glyph data. Usually, the goal is to extract the individual glyphs as PNG or BMP files so they can be traced and rebuilt into a functioning TTF file.
Because this is a closed, highly specific game format, standard online converters fail to process it.
Convert.Guru analyzes your FNTA file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

The FNTA Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our FNTA converter.
