About FMELIC files

The .fmelic file is an FME License File used to activate and authenticate spatial data integration products created by Safe Software, such as FME Form and FME Flow. These files contain structured data detailing license keys, expiry dates, node-locked MAC addresses, and permitted software modules. Users typically encounter this file when IT administrators distribute licenses for a new software installation. The main disadvantage of the .fmelic format is its highly specific, proprietary nature. Standard operating systems and web browsers do not associate with the extension by default, leaving users unable to easily inspect their license details, such as expiration dates or active features. It is strictly an authentication token, not a data storage file, meaning it requires the FME platform to execute properly.
