An .FGS file is typically a 3D visualization scene settings file used by the Figaro software environment. Alternatively, it may function as a Fig Figure Settings document used in optical metrology. These files store environmental configurations such as camera positioning, light intensities, object coordinates, and rendering instructions.
The main disadvantage of the .FGS format is its severe proprietary lock-in. Unlike universal 3D formats, an .FGS file does not contain actual 3D geometry, meshes, or textures. It only contains instructions. If you do not have the original 3D asset files or an active license for Figaro, this file is practically useless for direct rendering. Standard 3D viewer software and web browsers cannot process it because it lacks physical geometry.
Standard online converters fail to process .FGS files because they incorrectly attempt to convert them as solid 3D models rather than parsing their configuration tree. Because these are highly specific, closed ecosystem files, the best realistic conversion targets are data-focused formats.
