About FBT files

The .FBT file is an ABBYY FineReader Document Options File. It saves the user preferences, Optical Character Recognition (OCR) parameters, and layout configurations for a specific document batch. These files are generated and opened exclusively by ABBYY FineReader. The main disadvantage of .FBT files is that they do not contain the actual scanned document or the recognized text. They only store the software settings. Users often mistakenly share the .FBT file instead of the exported PDF or Word document, leaving the recipient unable to see the actual content. It is a closed, proprietary format tied to a commercial software subscription, and standard web browsers cannot parse it properly. Because it is a settings file, converting an .FBT file into a document format like PDF or DOCX is not practically possible. If the file is text-based, you might convert it to TXT or XML to view the raw configuration data, but no actual document content will be produced. This file format is difficult to open or convert because only the original software can properly read or export the configuration data. Standard online converters fail to process it.
