About F2R files

The .F2R file is a proprietary legacy audio tracker module, specifically known as a Farandole Linear Module. These files were primarily created using Farandole Composer, an MS-DOS music tracker used in the 1990s to compose synthesized, multi-channel chiptunes. The file acts as a specialized container for tracker instructions, including note sequence logic, embedded sound samples, and configuration data for up to 16 audio channels.

The major disadvantage of the .F2R format today is its extreme obsolescence and proprietary nature. Because it relies on a niche sequencer architecture rather than standard waveform audio, modern operating systems, web browsers, and default media players completely fail to recognize it. You cannot simply play an .F2R file on a smartphone or share it easily in an email. Furthermore, standard online audio converters usually fail to process these files because they lack the highly specialized synthesis engine required to decode tracker patterns into standard audio. Listening to these files natively requires running legacy software within an emulator like DOSBox, or using premium audio translation tools like Awave Studio.

To make the audio accessible and future-proof, users must convert .F2R files into standard playback formats. Converting to WAV or FLAC is ideal for perfect, lossless preservation of the synthesized audio, while MP3 or AAC provides universal compatibility for mobile devices. Because this file format is exceptionally difficult to open, often only the original software can properly read or export the data. If a supported underlying format is detected, viewing or conversion may still be possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your F2R file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
