The .ezlog file is primarily an amateur radio contact log created by EZ-Log, a logging program developed by W3IZ. It records essential details of radio contacts (QSOs) such as call signs, frequencies, signal reports, and timestamps. A small fraction of these files were also generated by legacy versions of Skype for the Skype Extras Manager.
The main disadvantage of the EZ-Log format is that it is heavily proprietary and entirely encrypted. Unlike standard logbook files, you cannot open an .ezlog file with a simple text editor or view it in a web browser. Because the data is locked inside a closed structure, users are essentially trapped into using the outdated, original EZ-Log software just to access their own personal radio logs. Ham radio operators frequently need to convert these isolated records into standard interoperable formats like ADI (ADIF), CSV, or TXT. This is mandatory if you want to upload your contacts to modern award tracking platforms like Logbook of the World (LoTW) or eQSL.
Because this is a closed, encrypted format, standard online converters will fail to process it. Only the original software holds the decryption key to properly read or export the full database.
