Extract text from Electronics Workbench projects (EWPRJ)

The .ewprj file is a proprietary PCB (Printed Circuit Board) design project file. It stores routing data, board outlines, component placements, and schematic links.
These files are natively created and managed by NI Ultiboard, a component of the Multisim suite developed by National Instruments.
The main disadvantage of the .ewprj format is its closed, proprietary nature. Users cannot open these files in web browsers, standard text editors, or competing free CAD software like KiCad. Viewing or modifying the board layout requires an active, expensive license for National Instruments software. This locks engineering teams into a single vendor ecosystem and is often frustrating when sharing files with third-party manufacturers.
To share designs for fabrication or review, users must convert .ewprj files to industry-standard formats. The best target formats include .GERBER (RS-274X) for actual board manufacturing, PDF for visual sharing and documentation, and DXF for mechanical CAD integration.
