About ESCAPE files
.escape files store the saved game state for the Escape Mode in Prison Architect. These files record player progress, inventory, and map data when playing as a prisoner trying to break out. The primary disadvantage of the .escape format is its rigid tie to a single game ecosystem; it requires a purchased copy of the game to run properly and cannot be natively opened by standard office or media applications. Users often attempt to convert or open these files to edit their save data, fix corrupted saves, or share specific escape scenarios with others. However, standard online converters fail to process them because this is a proprietary game state file, lacking standard image or document headers. The best conversion targets are TXT or XML for raw text editing, though game functionality requires retaining the original extension. If our analysis detects a supported underlying text format, viewing or modifying the raw data is entirely possible.
Convert.Guru analyzes your ESCAPE file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

The ESCAPE Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our ESCAPE converter.
