Primarily, it acts as an entity properties file for the Avalanche Engine, storing configuration data for 3D objects and behaviors in games like Just Cause 3. Alternatively, it functions as a Pixelblaze Effect file used by Electromage Pixelblaze LED controllers, which stores lighting animation code using a standard JSON structure. The main disadvantage of the Avalanche Engine .EPE format is that it is heavily proprietary and locked to specific game versions, making it entirely unsupported by standard software or web browsers. Opening or editing these game files typically requires niche, community-developed modding tools rather than commercial software. The Pixelblaze files, while technically just text, use an obscure extension that prevents native text editors from recognizing them instantly. If you need to edit a Pixelblaze .EPE file, the best conversion target is .JSON or .TXT, which allows you to modify the underlying JavaScript-like code in any modern code editor.
