About EGM files

The .EGM file format is primarily used as a FaceGen Statistical Shape Model by Singular Inversions or as a custom game level file for the physics puzzle game Enigmo. In FaceGen, these files store proprietary mathematical shape statistics rather than standard 3D polygons, allowing users to parametrically generate human faces based on age, race, and gender. The format is heavily proprietary and highly specific to its parent software. Because .EGM files lack standard mesh data, you cannot natively open them in general 3D software like Blender or Maya. This creates a significant bottleneck for 3D artists who need to integrate the generated faces into broader projects. To use the model elsewhere, you must rely on FaceGen Modeller to export the data into standard target formats like OBJ or FBX. Standard online converters fail to process .EGM files because only the original mathematical algorithms can reconstruct the geometry. Our tool will inspect the file headers and identify the exact format version. If our analysis detects a supported embedded format, viewing or conversion may still be possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your EGM file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

The EGM Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our EGM converter.
