About EFV files
The .EFV file is a proprietary data format used by the classic Ensoniq VFX-SD synthesizer, released in 1989. It primarily stores sequencer tracks, voice patches, and system parameters used by musicians to save their workstation setups. To interact with these files today, users typically rely on specialized sampler conversion software like Awave Studio or Chicken Systems Translator. You will likely need to convert this file because the .EFV format is obsolete and extremely proprietary. It was designed exclusively for 1980s double-density floppy disk hardware. You cannot open .EFV files in modern Digital Audio Workstations (DAWs) like Ableton Live or FL Studio without specialized tools. Standard online audio converters fail because the file contains machine-specific code, not actual audio waveforms. Musicians typically want to convert the sequence data into standard MID (MIDI) files to import into a modern DAW. Alternatively, extracting the patch data into SYX (System Exclusive) or SF2 (SoundFont) allows the sounds to be played in software emulators. During conversion, specific hardware-based modulation routing or proprietary effects settings are frequently lost. Because this is a closed, proprietary format, it is extremely difficult to open or convert without dedicated vintage emulation software. Often only the original hardware can properly read or export the exact sound parameters. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format, viewing or conversion may still be possible.
Convert.Guru analyzes your EFV file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert EFV file to TMP, TEMP, CACHE, LOG, BAK, OLD, NEW, PART, DOWNLOAD, CRDOWNLOAD, LOCK or PID, you can use Awave Studio or similar software from the "Synthesizer Data Storage" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert DEVICE, CACHE, SOCK, SYMLINK, PID, MOUNT, FIFO, LOG, PIPE, TMP, JUNCTION or TEMP files to EFV, try Awave Studio or another comparable tool in the "Synthesizer Data Storage" category.
The EFV Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our EFV converter.
