About EEK files

The .EEK file format is a legacy Arachne Network-Enabled Script. These files were heavily utilized by the Arachne graphical web browser, a niche software solution built to provide internet connectivity to MS-DOS systems. The scripts handle specific network automations, protocol parsing, and browser tasks within the Arachne environment. Because this format is permanently tied to an obsolete, 16-bit DOS-based ecosystem, modern operating systems cannot natively execute it. .EEK files are proprietary and remain completely unsupported by modern web browsers like Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox. This creates a massive usability barrier. Users generally encounter these files when extracting old hard drive backups or exploring retro software archives, only to find their computer has no built-in application to read them. To preserve the code or extract historical data, converting the .EEK file to standard TXT, HTML, or MD formats is the most practical workaround.
