An .EDFX file is a proprietary data container generated by Estimator.NET, a legacy budgeting and financial tracking software developed by Dunstad Software. These files store complex financial estimates, annual budgets, overhead costs, and delivery schedules used by small businesses and contractors.
Because the .EDFX format is closed and proprietary, standard spreadsheet tools like Microsoft Excel or modern cloud accounting platforms cannot natively open or read it. The software itself is an aging freeware utility with an interface dating back to 2007. This creates a severe lock-in effect: if you do not have the original software installed on a compatible Windows machine, your historical financial records are effectively trapped.
To ensure long-term access, you should aim to extract your financial numbers into a universal format like CSV for data manipulation or PDF for static read-only archiving. Be aware that exporting away from the original software may lose the proprietary visual graphs and custom contact layouts generated by the tool.
