About EDAT2 files

The .EDAT2 file format is a proprietary data container used by E-DataAid 2.0, a data management utility within the E-Prime software suite developed by Psychology Software Tools. These files store raw session data from computerized psychological experiments, recording metrics like reaction times, accuracy rates, and stimulus conditions. Because .EDAT2 is a closed, proprietary format, it creates significant bottlenecks for researchers. You cannot open these files natively in standard data analysis tools like Microsoft Excel, SPSS, or R. Accessing the data typically requires an expensive software license and a physical USB hardware dongle. This makes data sharing and remote work exceptionally difficult. To analyze the behavioral data, users must convert the .EDAT2 file to open formats. The best conversion targets are tab-delimited TXT or comma-separated CSV files.
