A .EBS2 file is a behavioral experiment script created by E-Prime, a software suite developed by Psychology Software Tools (PST). Researchers in psychology and neuroscience use these files to design, execute, and record computerized behavioral experiments. The file contains the precise timing, instructions, and stimulus presentation logic required for the test.
To run or edit the experiment, researchers typically use E-Run or E-Studio, which are components of the commercial E-Prime suite.
The primary disadvantage of the .EBS2 format is that it is highly specialized and proprietary. It requires an expensive commercial license to execute or visually edit. This creates a significant barrier if you need to share experiment parameters or logic with a colleague or peer reviewer who does not own the software.
Because it is tied to a specific runtime environment, converting the functional execution aspect of the file into a video or interactive web app is impossible. Often only the original software can properly read or export the behavioral logic to run the actual test.
