Extract text from eDrawings assembly files (EASMX)
To convert EASMX assemblies to another format, you need eDrawings Viewer or other 3D software.
To convert other file formats to the "CAD Assembly Viewer File" file type, you need software like eDrawings Viewer or a similar tool.
The .easmx file is a proprietary eDrawings Assembly XPS File. Mechanical engineers and designers use this format to share 3D assemblies created in SolidWorks or other CAD packages. Users typically open it using the free eDrawings Viewer developed by Dassault Systèmes.
The biggest disadvantage of the .easmx format is that it is a closed, "dead-end" format. It is intentionally designed this way to protect intellectual property. This means you cannot edit the 3D models or easily extract the original engineering data. It requires installing heavy, specialized software and is not supported by standard web browsers. Often, users want to convert it back to editable formats like STEP, IGES, or SLDASM, but this is typically blocked by design.
If you need to extract data, the best target formats are PDF (as a 3D PDF), STL (for 3D printing), or JPG (for flat visual reference). However, converting to editable CAD formats usually fails and requires the original source files.
This file format is exceptionally difficult to open or convert because the internal data structure is proprietary and locked by Dassault Systèmes. Standard online converters fail to process it because often only the original software can properly read or export the data.
