About E00 files

The .E00 file is an ArcInfo Coverage Export file developed by Esri. It stores geographic information system (GIS) data, including vector coordinates, attributes, and complex topology, usually in an ASCII format. Originally designed for transferring spatial data between older Arc/INFO systems, it can still be processed by desktop software like ArcGIS or open-source tools like QGIS. However, this is a legacy, proprietary format with major practical limitations today. The format is largely obsolete, files can be unusually large and slow to parse, and they are completely unsupported by modern web browsers or lightweight mapping tools. Opening these files often requires expensive GIS licenses or complex command-line knowledge. For interactive web mapping, convert to GEOJSON. For desktop editing and database management, convert to SHP (Shapefile) or GPKG (GeoPackage). For 3D visualization in Google Earth, convert to KML.

Convert.Guru analyzes your E00 file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted TFW, LYR and ECW files.

The E00 Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our E00 converter.
