A .dtapart file is an incomplete download created by the DownThemAll! download manager. It stores chunks of data locally while a file is actively being transferred from the internet.
DownThemAll! is a popular, open-source browser extension originally built for Mozilla Firefox. It accelerates downloads by splitting the target file into multiple segments and downloading them simultaneously.
The primary disadvantage of this format is that it is fundamentally incomplete. Users often want to open or convert these files when a download stalls, fails, or pauses indefinitely. Because the internal structure lacks a standard layout until the very end of the download, normal media players, archive extractors, or document viewers will usually reject it outright. It is a temporary container, not a final format.
You cannot traditionally convert a partial file because the actual data segments are missing. However, if the download actually reached 100% but the browser crashed before finalizing the file, you can often save it. Simply rename the extension from .dtapart to its intended extension, such as MP4 for video or ZIP for an archive.
