About DOV files
A .dov file is a proprietary database format used primarily by educational software like SchoolDict to store packaged dictionary data. In rare cases, it also functions as a generic temporary file. To open a .dov file natively, you need the original SchoolDict application. Because the underlying architecture relies on a Firebird database, advanced users might interact with it using Firebird administration tools. The .dov format is highly restrictive. It is a closed, proprietary file designed specifically for one educational software ecosystem. It locks your data inside a compiled binary database, preventing access from web browsers, standard text editors, or mobile devices. You cannot easily share a vocabulary list without forcing the recipient to install the specific dictionary software. Users frequently need to extract this data into accessible formats like CSV for spreadsheet analysis, SQL for database migration, or plain TXT for simple reading. Note that extracting to these formats will lose the proprietary search indexing and software-specific UI formatting. Because .dov relies on a customized database structure, standard online converters almost always fail to process it. Emphasize that often only the original software can properly read or export the data. However, convert.guru provides a realistic workaround. Just drag and drop your file to identify the exact format, inspect the binary file, and reveal hidden text or internal content. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format, like the Firebird database structure, viewing or conversion may still be possible.
Convert.Guru analyzes your DOV file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
Users also converted &&&, ~_~ and ~~~ files.

The DOV Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our DOV converter.
