About DFK files

A .DFK file is a Dark Flow Project File, historically used by Invisionsoft's abandoned Dark Flow game development engine to store game settings, source code, and resource references.

The primary disadvantage of the .DFK format is that it is a closed, proprietary file type tied to "dead" software. Because Dark Flow is no longer maintained, modern operating systems and web browsers cannot natively open or compile these projects. Users often encounter .DFK files in old game development archives and find themselves completely locked out of their own source code and asset references.

You cannot magically convert a .DFK directly into a modern engine format like Unity or Godot. Instead, the most practical solution is to convert or extract the underlying code into TXT, XML, or ZIP files to salvage your scripts and media.

Because it is an obscure developer format, standard online converters will immediately fail.

Convert.Guru analyzes your DFK file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

The DFK Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our DFK converter.
