A .deviceinfo file is an Apple Device Record generated by enterprise deployment and MDM (Mobile Device Management) systems. It stores critical device diagnostics, including the unique device identifier (UDID), IMEI, OS build versions, and a complete inventory of installed applications.
Historically, these files were managed using the legacy iPhone Configuration Utility (iPCU), which has since been replaced by Apple Configurator and modern MDM suites.
The primary disadvantage of the .deviceinfo format is its rigid association with proprietary Apple administration software. Without specialized IT utilities installed, standard operating systems cannot natively open the file. Furthermore, legacy iPCU software is no longer supported, leaving many users stuck with an inaccessible archive of device diagnostics.
If you simply need to extract the underlying data, converting the .deviceinfo file to standard XML, JSON, or TXT is the best solution. The original file operates on Apple’s standard property list (plist) architecture, meaning the text values transfer perfectly to these universal data formats without losing critical text strings.
