About DDV files

A .DDV file is a proprietary Full Motion Video (FMV) format used to store pre-rendered cutscenes in legacy video games, most notably PlayStation titles and PC games like Oddworld: Abe's Exoddus. These files multiplex raw audio and compressed video streams optimized for the slow read speeds of 1990s CD-ROM drives.

Modern media players and web browsers lack native support for the .DDV container. The format is entirely proprietary, meaning it requires specialized codecs or reverse-engineered demuxers built on FFmpeg to decode the video stream. You need to convert this file because you cannot upload it to YouTube, share it on social networks, or import it into standard video editors like Adobe Premiere Pro.

Converting .DDV to modern standards like MP4 (H.264), MKV, or AVI is highly recommended. Conversion makes the video universally playable, though you cannot improve the original low-resolution, retro artifacts.

Because this is a closed, undocumented format, it is extremely difficult to open or convert with standard tools. Often, only the original game engine can properly read the data.

Convert.Guru analyzes your DDV file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted SSZ, TEXTURES_L1 and ASS files.
