About DCK files
A .DCK file is primarily a Trading Card Game Decklist used by digital platforms like Magic: The Gathering Arena and Magic: The Gathering Online. It acts as a digital save state for a player's strategy, storing the exact names and quantities of cards for their main deck and sideboard. Secondarily, the extension is used as a Resolume Deck File, which stores visual clip channels and effects for live video mixing (VJing).
Typically, you open MTG decklists natively in the game client or in older third-party deck builders like Cockatrice or Forge. Resolume files require the specific Resolume software to load.
A major disadvantage of the .DCK format is the total lack of ecosystem standardization. Decks exported from older software often use proprietary headers or specific XML tags that modern web builders or MTG Arena completely fail to parse. Resolume users face a different limit: their files are strictly version-locked and proprietary, making them impossible to view without an active software license.
Because of these import errors, players are often forced to manually clean up the file code. A far better solution is converting the .DCK file to a clean TXT format, which strips out proprietary metadata and leaves a simple, import-ready list. If you need a physical copy for a tournament sheet, converting to PDF is ideal. For collection management, converting to CSV is the standard.
These proprietary headers mean standard online converters will just throw an error. However, convert.guru can parse the underlying text or XML structure. Just drag and drop your file to identify the exact format, view the internal contents, and convert it to a universal format whenever supported.

The DCK Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our DCK converter.
