About D4 files
A .D4 file is a lighting fixture personality (driver) used by Avolites Titan consoles. It defines how a specific lighting fixture operates, mapping DMX channels to attributes like Dimmer, Pan, Tilt, and Color. While the underlying format is XML, these files are strictly engaged with the Titan operating system (and the legacy Diamond 4 console). Users often need to convert or view these files when they are away from the console - for example, to extract a channel list for an electrician, or to manually transcribe the fixture's DMX chart into a different console ecosystem like MA Lighting or Chamsys.
Because .D4 files are proprietary XML schemas, they do not open meaningfully in standard software. Opening them in a text editor reveals raw code that is difficult to interpret for patching. For documentation and sharing, the best approach is to convert the data to PDF (via the Personality Builder's print function) or TXT to view the raw XML structure. For backward compatibility with older Avolites desks (Pearl 2000/2004), users must use the Avolites Personality Builder to export the .D4 file to the legacy .R20 format.
Convert.Guru analyzes your D4 file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert D4 file to XML, DB, SQLITE, SQLITE3, MDB, ACCDB, DBF, ODB, FDB, GDB, MYD or FRM, you can use Avolites Titan or similar software from the "Lighting Fixture Personality" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….

The D4 Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our D4 converter.
