The .d2d file extension represents completely different formats depending on the software that created it. It is primarily used as a 2D/3D CAD drawing file by Japanese CAD software DynaCAD and Allplan. Alternatively, it serves as a condominium administration data backup for Danea Domustudio, a popular Italian property management application. A smaller subset of .d2d files are proprietary game data archives used in MMOs like Lineage 2.
The main disadvantage of the .d2d format is this extreme fragmentation. Because multiple, completely unrelated programs share the exact same extension, operating systems frequently fail to open them. A CAD drawing requires highly specific, localized software to view, while property management files lock your data into a niche ecosystem. This creates severe vendor lock-in, making it incredibly difficult to share project files or databases with clients and non-users.
For CAD variants, the best conversion targets are standard DXF or DWG for vector editing, or PDF for document viewing. Interestingly, the Danea Domustudio variant is actually a renamed 7z compressed archive. You can simply rename the extension to 7z and extract the internal database files. Game data files, however, are highly proprietary and generally cannot be converted without corrupting the game installation.
Because of these overlapping formats, standard online converters fail with .d2d files. They cannot automatically guess which of the distinct file types your file represents and often crash.
