Convert a file to CPVC
To convert other file formats to the "Captivate Project File" file type, you need software like Adobe Captivate or a similar tool.
About CPVC files
A .CPVC file is an Adobe Captivate Video Composition project file created by Adobe Captivate. When a user records a screen demonstration, software simulation, or webcam feed, Captivate saves the raw recording data, timeline edits, and cursor tracking layers in this format.
The primary disadvantage of a .CPVC file is that it is heavily closed and proprietary. You cannot play it in standard media players like VLC or edit it in typical video suites like Adobe Premiere Pro. Opening and editing these files requires a costly, active subscription to Adobe Captivate. Furthermore, these raw project files can easily exceed hundreds of megabytes, making them extremely difficult to share or archive efficiently.
To share a Captivate recording with others, you must convert the .CPVC project into a standard video format like MP4, AVI, or WEBM. However, converting this file format is difficult because it is not a standard video stream; it is a complex timeline composition. Standard online video converters fail to process it because they lack the proprietary rendering engine required to flatten the layers.
Just drag and drop your file to identify the format, view it, and convert it when possible. While .CPVC files often require the original software to fully render out the final video, convert.guru can still inspect the file structure. If our analysis detects supported underlying or embedded media assets within the project archive, viewing or extraction of the raw video streams may still be possible.

The CPVC Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our CPVC converter.
