About CPMZ files

The .cpmz file is a proprietary project data file created by Miradi or the ConPro conservation database software. Developed by Benetech, these files store complex conceptual models, threat prioritization metrics, and strategy tracking data used by conservation practitioners globally. Under the hood, a .cpmz file is essentially a compressed archive (a ConPro/Miradi Zipfile) containing structured database information, typically in XML format alongside other project assets. The biggest disadvantage of the .cpmz format is its highly specialized and proprietary nature. Unless you or your stakeholders have an active license or subscription to Miradi Share or the desktop software, you cannot easily open or read the project reports. This creates a severe bottleneck when sharing vital environmental monitoring data with external researchers, government agencies, or funding bodies who rely on standard formats. The files cannot be natively previewed by web browsers or standard office suites. To make the data accessible, the ideal conversion targets are ZIP (for extracting internal contents), XML, or CSV for tabular data analysis. If you need a readable report, exporting to PDF or DOCX is preferred, though this usually requires the original software. When extracting the data without Miradi, you will lose the interactive UI elements and visual relationship diagrams. Because the format relies on custom database schemas, standard file converters completely fail to process it. Our engine will analyze the embedded ZIP container and allow you to inspect the internal XML files or extract the raw data, bypassing the need for a specialized desktop installation.

Convert.Guru analyzes your CPMZ file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

The CPMZ Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our CPMZ converter.
