About CNDF files

A .CNDF file is a proprietary binary database storing channel and transponder information for digital satellite receivers powered by ALi Corporation chipsets (common in generic Openbox, Skybox, and various FTA set-top boxes). Users typically generate these files by exporting their channel lineup to a USB drive to avoid the tedious process of sorting thousands of channels using a TV remote.

However, .CNDF files present significant friction for users. They are not human-readable text files; they are checksum-protected binaries. Opening one in a standard text editor reveals gibberish, and even a single byte modification can render the file unreadable by your receiver, potentially causing boot loops or "File Mismatch" errors. Additionally, the format is often tied to specific firmware versions, meaning a .CNDF from one device may not load onto a newer model without conversion.

For effective management, users often need to convert .CNDF files into intermediate formats. Converting to UDF (User Data File) is common for cross-compatibility with other ALi-based editors. For migration to Linux-based receivers (like Enigma2), the data must be converted to XML or lamedb formats. For simple viewing or printing of channel lineups, converting the binary data to CSV or TXT is the most practical solution.

Convert.Guru analyzes your CNDF file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

The CNDF Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our CNDF converter.
