Convert CNA to another file type
To convert your CNA file to another format, you need CadnaA or other Cad software.
Convert a file to CNA
To convert other file formats to the "Acoustic Modeling Project" file type, you need software like CadnaA or a similar tool.
About CNA files
The .CNA extension primarily identifies a project file created by DataKustik CadnaA (Computer Aided Noise Abatement), the industry standard for environmental noise prediction. These files store complex 3D terrain data, point sources, and acoustic calculation models inside a proprietary Microsoft Compound (OLE2) container.
A major limitation for users is the strict licensing; opening a .CNA file natively requires the specific software version and often a hardware dongle, making it impossible for clients or stakeholders to view the data directly. For collaboration, these files must be converted into interoperable formats. For engineering and architectural integration, converting to DXF or DWG for AutoCAD is standard. For geospatial analysis, exporting to SHP (Shapefile) for use in QGIS or ArcGIS is critical.
A secondary, distinct use case exists within the gaming community, where .CNA files act as UnityFS asset bundles for specific games (often utilizing the Unity engine). These archives contain textures, audio, and 3D models that modders seek to extract. While you cannot "open" these in a text editor, specialized asset extractors can convert the internal resources to PNG, OBJ, or WAV.
Convert.Guru analyzes your CNA file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert CNA file to CSV, JSON, XML, YAML, YML, TOML, INI, CFG, CONF, DAT, DB or SQL, you can use CadnaA or similar software from the "Noise Prediction Project" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert DBF, XML, SQLITE, XLSX, SQL, TSV, ACCDB, YAML, MDB, CSV, ODS or JSON files to CNA, try CadnaA or another comparable tool in the "Noise Prediction Project" category.
The CNA Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our CNA converter.
