About CNA files

The .CNA file extension is primarily associated with CadnaA (Computer Aided Noise Abatement) project files. These files store highly complex 3D acoustic models, terrain elevations, and environmental noise calculations used for urban planning and industrial noise assessments.

These proprietary files are created and managed exclusively using DataKustik CadnaA. In a minority of cases, the extension is also used as a UnityFS asset bundle for games built on the Unity engine.

The main disadvantage of the .CNA format is its heavily closed nature. It requires an expensive commercial software license and a physical USB dongle to open natively. Clients, public stakeholders, and collaborators cannot open these files in web browsers, standard office suites, or generic CAD viewers. Sharing raw .CNA files almost always results in accessibility roadblocks and delays.

If you need to share your acoustic models, the best conversion targets are PDF for static visual reports, DXF for CAD integration, or SHP for GIS mapping. Note that converting a .CNA file to these standard formats will permanently strip away the dynamic acoustic calculation capabilities, leaving only the geometric or visual map data.

This file format is exceptionally difficult to open or convert online because it uses a complex Microsoft Compound container structure specific to CadnaA. Usually, only the original software can properly read or export the environmental data. However, convert.guru can still identify the file format, inspect the file, and show text or internal content. Just drag and drop your file to see what it is and convert it if supported. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format, viewing or conversion may still be possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your CNA file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted TFT, CLC and EXM files.

FAQ

If you want to convert CNA file to CSV, JSON, XML, YAML, YML, TOML, INI, CFG, CONF, DAT, DB or SQL, you can use DataKustik CadnaA or similar software from the "Noise Prediction Model Storage" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….

To convert DBF, XML, SQLITE, XLSX, SQL, TSV, ACCDB, YAML, MDB, CSV, ODS or JSON files to CNA, try DataKustik CadnaA or another comparable tool in the "Noise Prediction Model Storage" category.

The CNA Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our CNA converter.
