About CLKS files

A .clks file is a Clicker Set activity file created by Clicker, an educational software suite developed by Crick Software. These files store interactive reading and writing activities, word grids, and structured sentences used primarily in special education settings. You can open these files natively using Clicker 7 or Clicker 8 on Windows and macOS. The .clks format has major disadvantages because it is highly restrictive and proprietary. It requires a paid software license to open and view the content. Parents, teachers, or students working on a home computer without the specific Clicker application installed cannot access the lesson content. Additionally, this format is completely unsupported by standard web browsers, mobile devices, and regular word processors. Converting .clks to standard text formats like XML or TXT is highly recommended if you only need to extract the raw text and vocabulary words. Converting to a PDF document is the best solution for printing static worksheets, though you must accept that all interactive text-to-speech functionality and dynamic grid features will be permanently lost.
