About CIMG files
The .CIMG file format is a native, uncompressed image storage format utilized exclusively by the CImg Library, a highly minimalist, open-source C++ toolkit for image processing. Developers use this format to serialize and dump multi-dimensional image arrays directly from memory to disk.
It is a highly specialized developer format. Standard operating systems, web browsers, and popular image viewers cannot read it natively. Because files are typically uncompressed, this results in massive file sizes frequently exceeding 100MB for high-resolution volumetric arrays. You cannot open a .CIMG file without writing custom C++ code, compiling scientific software with the CImg headers, or using specialized CLI tools like ImageMagick.
To share these images with clients or colleagues, you must convert them to standard, widely supported formats. We recommend converting to PNG for lossless web viewing, JPG for significantly smaller file sizes, or TIFF to preserve high bit-depth or multi-channel scientific data.
This file format is exceptionally difficult to open or convert because standard online converters fail to process its proprietary, header-specific structure. Often, only the original software or customized scripts can properly read or export the data. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format, viewing or conversion may still be possible.
Convert.Guru analyzes your CIMG file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert CIMG file to JPG, PDF, PNG, GIF, BMP, TIFF, TIF, WEBP, ICO, CUR, PSD or PSB, you can use CImg Library or similar software from the "Raw Image Data Storage" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert RAW, PNG, AI, NEF, PSB, DNG, SVG, GIF, EPS, JPG, ARW or PDF files to CIMG, try CImg Library or another comparable tool in the "Raw Image Data Storage" category.
The CIMG Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our CIMG converter.
