About BXT files
The .BXT file is a proprietary text document created by Balabolka, a popular freeware Text-To-Speech (TTS) program. It stores the raw text meant to be read aloud, combined with embedded audio control tags that dictate voice speed, pitch, volume, and deliberate pauses for the speech synthesizer.
The primary disadvantage of a .BXT file is its proprietary nature and limited ecosystem. It is heavily tied to the Windows-only Balabolka software. If you send a .BXT file to a client or try to open it on macOS, Linux, or a mobile device, it will not work without third-party workarounds. Opening the file in a standard text editor like Notepad often reveals messy internal markup tags that make reading the core text difficult.
Users typically need to convert .BXT files to plain TXT, DOCX, or PDF to share the readable text, or export the spoken audio to MP3 or WAV. When converting to standard document formats, the specific TTS pacing and pitch tags are entirely lost.
Because .BXT is a closed, proprietary format, standard online converters often fail to process it. Usually, only the original Balabolka software can perfectly read the tags or export the final audio.
Convert.Guru analyzes your BXT file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

The BXT Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our BXT converter.
