About BSX files

The .BSX file is an XML-based document used primarily to store LEGO parts list inventories. It is created and managed by BrickStore, an open-source inventory management tool designed for the BrickLink marketplace. Sellers and hobbyists use these files to track bricks, sets, parts, and colors. The main disadvantage of the .BSX format is its highly specialized extension. Standard spreadsheet tools like Microsoft Excel or standard web browsers will not open a .BSX file by default, despite it being plain XML data under the hood. It locks the user into the BrickStore software ecosystem to properly render the part thumbnails, prices, and quantities. Users often need to convert .BSX files to CSV, XLSX, or standard XML to perform custom financial analysis, share inventory with non-LEGO sellers, or import lists into custom databases. Converting to CSV will retain the raw part IDs and quantities but lose any native BrickStore visual styling or linked thumbnails. Because .BSX is deeply tied to BrickStore's specific data schema, many generic online converters fail to process it. Often, only the original software can properly read or export the fully formatted data.
