A .BS4 file is a proprietary video recording generated by Mikogo, a desktop sharing and web conferencing application created by BeamYourScreen. It captures screen activity, audio, and session data during online meetings, primarily optimized for low-bandwidth transmission.
The primary disadvantage of the .BS4 format is its highly restricted, proprietary nature. Standard media players like VLC, Windows Media Player, or QuickTime cannot decode or play the file. Sharing a .BS4 file directly with clients or colleagues is impractical, as they would be forced to download and install the dedicated Mikogo Session Player simply to view the recording.
To make the recording accessible, users must convert it to a standard video format such as MP4 or AVI. Converting to MP4 is highly recommended as it ensures maximum compatibility across web browsers, smartphones, and operating systems with minimal loss of visual clarity.
Because this is a closed, proprietary format, standard online video converters almost always fail to process it. Often, only the original Mikogo software can properly read or export the session data.
