About BLUEJ files
A .bluej file is a project configuration file used by the BlueJ Java integrated development environment (IDE). Typically named package.bluej, it acts as the central map for a Java project. It stores essential metadata such as class relationships, character encoding, and the exact screen coordinates for the IDE's interactive UML-like class diagram. These files are exclusively managed by BlueJ, an educational Java IDE developed to teach object-oriented programming. Users often mistakenly try to convert a .bluej file to extract Java source code or create an executable, but the file does not contain actual code. The real source code lives in separate .java files. Because the .bluej format is highly specific to the BlueJ ecosystem, standard online converters fail to process it. There are no images or documents to convert; it is strictly plain-text configuration data. If you need to read the underlying data, the best target format is .TXT. You can easily view the raw configuration properties, though you will lose the graphical class structure display that BlueJ provides. Because this file format is difficult to open or convert outside of its native environment, often only the original software can properly read or export the data. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format, viewing or conversion may still be possible.
Convert.Guru analyzes your BLUEJ file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert BLUEJ file to PDF, JS, TS, PY, JAVA, CPP, C, CS, PHP, RB, GO or RS, you can use BlueJ or similar software from the "Java Project Settings Storage" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert SH, PY, KT, PS1, SWIFT, LUA, PL, JAVA, SCALA, JS, VBS or TS files to BLUEJ, try BlueJ or another comparable tool in the "Java Project Settings Storage" category.
The BLUEJ Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our BLUEJ converter.
