The .BLS file extension serves multiple, completely unrelated functions depending on the software that created it. Most often, it functions as a license database file used by the Bricsys License Server. In this context, it relies on the Microsoft Jet Database engine to store and manage network floating license allocations. Alternatively, a .BLS file can be a plain-text JSON Visa application data file used by BLS International, an XML project file for Bluetooth Launch Studio, or a highly complex 3D surgical guide treatment plan generated by Blue Sky Plan. Legacy gamers might also encounter .BLS files as saved game blocks from the voxel building game Blockland.
These files are strictly bound to their parent software, making them frustrating for users who just need to view the data. Opening a Blue Sky Plan surgical guide without a costly dental software license is virtually impossible. Similarly, Bricsys license databases require specific admin tools to view active sessions.
