About BLORB files
A .BLORB file is an Interactive Fiction Package Game File created by Andrew Plotkin. It acts as a resource wrapper that bundles a compiled text adventure game script (such as Z8 or ULX) with external multimedia assets like JPG images and OGG sound effects into a single archive.
Players typically open these files using specialized interactive fiction interpreters like Gargoyle or Lectrote. You can learn more about its underlying IFF container structure on its Wikipedia page.
Users need to convert or extract .BLORB files when they want to rip the background music, view the cover art, or play the base game script on an interpreter that does not support the full media package. The primary disadvantage of this format is its extreme obscurity. Normal archive tools like WinRAR cannot open it. It is entirely proprietary to the interactive fiction niche, meaning standard web browsers and media players will reject it.
The best conversion strategy is extraction to target formats like JPG, PNG, OGG, or raw game formats like GLX. Note that extracting the assets separates them from the game logic, meaning the media will no longer trigger automatically during gameplay.
This file format is difficult to process because it is a highly specific, nested IFF container. Standard online converters fail because they lack the niche parsers required for interactive fiction wrappers. If our analysis detects a supported embedded format, viewing or extraction may still be possible.
Convert.Guru analyzes your BLORB file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

The BLORB Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our BLORB converter.
