About BA9 files

.ba9 files are proprietary backup archives created by the 2019 desktop edition of TaxAct. They securely store user tax returns, including forms, schedules, and entered financial data for that specific tax year.

Users often need to convert .ba9 files to PDF to print past returns for mortgages, audits, or financial planning. Alternatively, some seek to extract raw data to CSV formats. However, standard online converters consistently fail here. The .ba9 format is completely closed and proprietary. It relies heavily on the specific 2019 tax code rules engine built into the software.

This makes the format notoriously difficult to process. You cannot simply open a .ba9 file in modern web browsers or standard office software. Usually, only the original 2019 TaxAct software can properly read, render, or export the data to a usable document. If our analysis detects an underlying text structure or embedded metadata, viewing or partial data extraction may still be possible without the original software.

Convert.Guru analyzes your BA9 file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
