About B32 files
The .b32 file extension is a proprietary medical imaging format generated by Sonomed Escalon ophthalmic ultrasound systems. These files store B-scan data - two-dimensional cross-sectional acoustic views of the eye and orbit - used by ophthalmologists to diagnose conditions like retinal detachment or vitreous hemorrhage when optical views are obstructed.
The main issue for users is that .b32 files are essentially raw binary dumps lacking standard image headers. They are strictly designed for the internal Sonomed interface or legacy diagnostic software. Consequently, you cannot double-click to open them in Windows Photo Viewer, macOS Preview, or professional editors like Adobe Photoshop. This proprietary lock-in makes it difficult to attach scans to electronic medical records (EMR) or share them with patients.
To access this data, users must convert the files to interoperable formats:
For Medical Archiving: Convert to DICOM to preserve patient metadata and ensure compatibility with PACS servers.
For General Viewing: Convert to JPG or PNG. This renders the acoustic data as a standard grayscale image, suitable for email or quick reference.
For Reporting: Convert to PDF to bundle multiple scans and annotations into a single, printable document.
Convert.Guru analyzes your B32 file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
