Extract text from Association type files (ATY)
To convert ATY Association types to another format, you need Topicscape or other Data software.
To convert other file formats to the "Topicscape Metadata Export" file type, you need software like Topicscape or a similar tool.
The .ATY file is an Association Type Placeholder created by Topicscape, a 3D visual information manager developed by G&A M.C.. Topicscape uses these files to export node associations and map structures so they can be re-imported later.
The main disadvantage of the .ATY format is its rigid, proprietary nature. It is heavily tied to the Topicscape software ecosystem. Without this specific program, the file is functionally useless to the average user. Standard office suites and web browsers cannot open it. Furthermore, it merely acts as a placeholder for relationship metadata rather than storing actual media, making it confusing for users who expect a viewable document.
Because it contains basic structural metadata, the best conversion targets are generic text-based data formats like TXT, CSV, or XML. Converting to these formats allows you to extract the raw text nodes and structural data without needing the original 3D mapping software. Note that converting to a spreadsheet or text format permanently strips away the visual 3D elements and spatial layout of the original mind map.
Opening or converting .ATY files is difficult because standard online converters do not recognize Topicscape's unique internal syntax. Often only the original software can properly read or export the data. We can inspect the file and show text or internal content.
