About ARSCRIPT files

The .arscript file is an ArtRage Script created by Ambient Design for their digital painting software, ArtRage. It is not a standard image file containing static pixels; instead, it is a proprietary macro recording that stores every brush stroke, tool selection, canvas rotation, and color choice made during a digital painting session. This allows artists to play back the entire painting process step-by-step to demonstrate techniques or reconstruct a file.

The major disadvantage of the .arscript format is its strict dependency on the proprietary ArtRage engine to interpret the brush physics and rendering data. Users frequently mistake these scripts for standalone image files (like JPG or PNG) or video files (like MP4). Without an active $30-$80 license for the original software, the visual data cannot be generated. Furthermore, standard online image converters completely fail to process these files because they lack the complex rendering algorithms needed to calculate how paint mixes on the digital canvas.

To share the final artwork, users must render it within ArtRage and export it to standard formats like JPG, PNG, or PSD. If you want a time-lapse video of the painting process, you must use external screen recording software while playing the script. Since the script itself is often structured as plain text or XML underlying data, you might extract the raw parameters to TXT or XML to inspect the command structure.

Because this is a closed, proprietary format, direct image or video conversion outside of the host application is practically impossible. While we cannot render the physical paint strokes without the original engine, our analysis can detect the embedded text data and extract readable metadata.

Convert.Guru analyzes your ARSCRIPT file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
