An .arpatch file is a Spark AR Patch Asset. It is used exclusively by Meta Spark Studio to define visual programming logic for augmented reality (AR) filters on Instagram and Facebook. Creators use these files to share and import interactive node networks without writing raw code.
The only software natively designed to open, edit, and apply these files is Meta Spark Studio.
The biggest disadvantage of the .arpatch format is its strictly closed ecosystem. The files are highly proprietary and useless outside of Meta's walled garden. You cannot open them in standard web browsers, text editors, or competitor software. They require downloading a massive desktop application just to see what the logic does. Furthermore, version mismatches in the software frequently break these files, causing frustrating compatibility issues.
