About ANP files

The .ANP extension is primarily associated with ArCon, a specialized architectural CAD tool used for creating 2D floor plans and 3D visualizations. These project files contain complex building data, including wall geometries, textures, and object placement. The primary problem for users is the proprietary nature of the format; you typically cannot open an .ANP file without having ArCon installed, which effectively locks the data away from standard CAD tools like AutoCAD or universal viewers. For sharing designs with clients who lack the software, converting the project to PDF or raster images like JPG is the most practical solution. For technical interoperability, users often need to export the data to DXF or DWG formats to continue work in other environments.

A secondary but significant use of the extension is found in legacy Primavera Project Planner (P3) files. In this context, the .ANP file stores the graphical layout (node locations) of PERT charts. Since P3 is legacy software now owned by Oracle, modern project management tools like Microsoft Project generally do not import these layout files directly. Users dealing with these archives often resort to converting the charts to PDF for documentation purposes, as the original layout data is otherwise inaccessible on modern operating systems. Lastly, you may occasionally find this file as a preferences file for Adobe Animate, which should not be converted but simply reset if corrupted.

Convert.Guru analyzes your ANP file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

The ANP Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our ANP converter.
