Extract text from AIMP playlists (AIMPPL)
To convert AIMPPL playlists to another format, you need AIMP or other Data software.
To convert other file formats to the "Audio Playlist File" file type, you need software like AIMP or a similar tool.
The .aimppl file is a proprietary playlist format created by AIMP, a popular Windows and Android audio player. It stores sequential track lists, local file paths, and basic metadata like track duration and artist names. It does not contain actual audio data.
The primary disadvantage of the .aimppl format is its proprietary nature. It locks your music library organization into a single software ecosystem. Because playlist files only store text references to local storage locations, sharing an .aimppl file with another person is useless unless you also transfer the underlying MP3 or FLAC audio files and replicate the exact same folder structure. Standard media players like VLC media player or Winamp cannot read .aimppl files directly.
To migrate your music library to another player, you should convert .aimppl files to universal target formats like M3U, M3U8, or PLS. During this process, you must ensure that relative file paths remain intact, or the target software will fail to locate the songs.
Proprietary playlist formats are notoriously difficult to parse outside their native environment because they often use unique encoding or data structures instead of standardized plain text. Often only the original software can properly read or export the data.
