Convert AGP to another file type
To convert your AGP file to another format, you need agptools or other Data software.
Convert a file to AGP
To convert other file formats to the "Bioinformatics Assembly Map" file type, you need software like agptools or a similar tool.
About AGP files
The .AGP extension primarily refers to a Genomic Scaffold Assembly file, a specialized text-based format defined by the NCBI (National Center for Biotechnology Information). These files act as a "blueprint" for DNA sequencing, describing how smaller sequence fragments (contigs) are stitched together to form larger chromosomal structures (scaffolds). They are critical in bioinformatics but functionally useless to standard text editors or image viewers due to their strict tab-delimited column structure and lack of inherent visual data. Researchers commonly encounter problems when trying to visualize this data or merge it with sequence files; conversion to FASTA (for raw sequence) or HTML (for reports) is essential for practical analysis.
Alternatively, an .AGP file may be an ArtGem Project File created by RL Vision's legacy ArtGem software. These are proprietary 32-bit graphics projects supporting layers and transparency. Users with these files are often locked out of their artwork due to the software's obsolescence and must convert them to standard PNG, JPG, or PDF formats to view, share, or archive their work.
Convert.Guru analyzes your AGP file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
FAQ
If you want to convert AGP file to JPG, PDF, PNG, GIF, BMP, TIFF, TIF, WEBP, ICO, CUR, PSD or PSB, you can use agptools or similar software from the "Genomic Scaffold Assembly Map" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert RAW, PNG, AI, NEF, PSB, DNG, SVG, GIF, EPS, JPG, ARW or PDF files to AGP, try agptools or another comparable tool in the "Genomic Scaffold Assembly Map" category.
The AGP Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our AGP converter.
