About AGM files

The .agm file extension primarily identifies a proprietary DVR Video Recording format generated by AGP DVR Systems. These files are typically RIFF containers used to store high-volume surveillance footage. Unlike standard MP4 or AVI files, an .agm file often encapsulates multiple simultaneous video streams (from different cameras) into a single file structure, making it incompatible with standard media players like VLC Media Player or Windows Media Player. Users frequently encounter these files when exporting incident footage from security systems, only to find they cannot view or share them without specific proprietary software like AGMPlayer.

In a secondary context, .agm refers to a DTS Multi-channel Pro Packer File. This is an intermediate data format used by DTS Pro Series Surround Encoder to organize and package mono audio tracks (e.g., WAV) before encoding them into a final surround sound stream for DVD or CD authoring. These files contain metadata and track layouts rather than playable audio.

For surveillance video, the goal is to convert .agm to MP4 for universal playback on computers and mobile devices. For DTS projects, users may need to convert back to WAV if the original source files are lost, though this is a complex extraction process.

Convert.Guru analyzes your AGM file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted WEM, WMA and 8SVX files.
