About ACCDW files

The .ACCDW file is a Microsoft Access Workspace Link. It functions as a downloaded shortcut that connects a user to a database hosted on a SharePoint server or Office 365. When executed, it tells the local software where to find the remote data.

This format is opened and managed by Microsoft Access. The major disadvantage of the .ACCDW format is that it does not contain the actual database tables, queries, or records. It relies entirely on an active internet connection, proper server authentication, and a paid Microsoft 365 subscription to work.

Standard online converters fail to process this file because the physical data is absent. To convert the database into universally readable formats like CSV or XLSX, or to create a local offline ACCDB file, you must first connect to the server via Microsoft Access and manually export the tables.

Because this file acts as a proprietary, closed connection link to an authenticated server, it is incredibly difficult for third-party tools to extract data from it. Often, only the original software can properly read or export the data. We can inspect the file and show the internal XML text, which might reveal the server URL so you know where your data is actually located.

Convert.Guru analyzes your ACCDW file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
