About A2M files
The .A2M file extension primarily represents an Adlib Tracker II music module, originally created by the classic DOS-based Adlib Tracker II software. It contains FM synthesis music data specifically designed for the Yamaha YMF262 (OPL3) sound chip. Alternatively, an .A2M file can be a proprietary settings file for TallStick's TS-AudioToMIDI conversion software.
The main disadvantage of the .A2M format is its highly proprietary, legacy nature. It does not contain actual digital audio like a standard music track. Instead, it stores a sequence of instructions for an FM synthesizer. This makes it impossible to open or play natively in modern web browsers, smartphones, or mainstream media players like Spotify or Apple Music. The TS-AudioToMIDI variant is equally restrictive, as it is a closed configuration file useless outside its specific parent application.
To make the music playable on modern devices, you must convert the tracker instructions into standard digital audio. The best target formats are MP3 for lightweight sharing or FLAC and WAV for lossless preservation of the synthesizer's output.
Because this is a closed, hardware-specific format heavily tied to vintage sound card emulation (OPL3), standard online converters often fail to process it. We will parse the file to determine if it is an audio module or a simple settings file.
Convert.Guru analyzes your A2M file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

The A2M Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our A2M converter.
