About 3W files

The .3w file is a proprietary sliced 3D model created by XYZprinting. It contains layer-by-layer toolpath instructions designed specifically for da Vinci series 3D printers. Users typically generate these files using XYZware from standard 3D meshes. The .3w format is highly restrictive. It is a closed container that locks users into the XYZprinting ecosystem. These files require proprietary software to read and are not supported by web browsers or generic G-code viewers. Because the 3D geometry has already been translated into physical machine movements, editing the original design is practically impossible. Converting a .3w file back into standard STL or OBJ formats is mathematically complex, as the original solid geometry is permanently lost during the slicing process. Standard online converters fail to process it due to the proprietary wrapper. This file format is difficult to open or convert because the data is compiled specifically for closed-source hardware. Often, only the original XYZprinting software can properly read or export the data. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format, viewing or conversion may still be possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your 3W file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

The 3W Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our 3W converter.
