About 3FR files

The .3FR file is a proprietary raw image format generated by Hasselblad digital medium format cameras. It contains uncompressed, unprocessed data directly from the camera's image sensor. These files are typically processed using Hasselblad's own Phocus software, or third-party professional photography tools like Adobe Lightroom and Capture One. The .3FR format has several disadvantages for everyday use. It is highly proprietary, meaning standard image viewers and web browsers cannot open it. Because Hasselblad cameras use large medium format sensors, .3FR files are massive, often exceeding 100MB per image. You cannot share them on social media or embed them in documents without conversion. You must convert .3FR files to standard formats like JPG for web sharing, PNG for lossless graphics, or standard TIFF for professional print workflows. Note that converting to compressed formats like JPG will permanently lose the raw sensor data and dynamic range flexibility. This file format is difficult to convert perfectly because raw processing requires specific camera color profiles and demosaicing algorithms. Often, only the original software can properly read or export the data to render the exact intended colors.
